Emerging Spirit Script to Screen Competition
Got a script that's burning a hole in a drawer? Or an idea you'd love to turn into a film? Well read on...
Last year we ran the Emerging Spirit Script to Screen competition for the first time with the winning script 'Dead Skin' being produced and premiered at the festival in October 2022. We had such a great experience with running Emerging Spirit, we're bringing the competition back for this year's festival.
What's the Competition?
We will support a filmmaking team to make their script a reality. Together with our partners, we will provide the competition winner with a package of resources that will support them to turn their script into a short film during 2023. Their finished short will also be guaranteed a screening at the Spirit of Independence film festival on 30th September 2023.
What's the Prize?
We will be offering the following to the winner of the Emerging Spirit Script to Screen Competition:
£500 cash
Free equipment hire from South Yorkshire Filmmakers’ Network
Free use of post-production facilities at The Kurious
Free colour grading from Colourist Paul Handley
Free visual effects courtesy of Bluespec Digital
Free post-production sound design from Marcus Graham
Mentorship by a member of the BFI Network
The Emerging Spirit Script to Screen competition has now closed for this year. Congratulations to Nadia Emam who won the honourable mention prize for the script 'Beruit' and Ed Kirk who won the Emerging Spirit Script to Screen prize for the script 'The Black Dog'. You can find further details of the competition in the breifing guideliens below.
