SUBMISSIONS

We're open for submissions from 1st December 2023 and currently have five categories you can submit to:

        Rising Spirit award: Best micro-budget feature film - Over 60 minutes in length, under £150k in production budget

        Rising Spirit award: Best micro-budget short film - Under 30 minutes in length, under £3k in production budget

        Independent Spirit award: Best feature film - Over 60 minutes in length, over £150k in production budget

        Independent Spirit award: Best short film: Under 30 minutes in length, over £3k in production budget

        Emerging Spirit Script to Screen competition: Scripts up to 12 pages in length, must be based or able to be shot in the Yorkshire region (opens 1st February 2023). 


Selection Process

Our selection process involves a number of stages designed to ensure impartiality but also to ensure that each film selected has gone through a balanced approachto agreeing on the final lineup.

Initial viewing:

Films are watched 

by a minimum of two people from the programming team

Scoring:

Films are considered and marked using considerations such as technical achievement, originality and story

Review:

Films are discussed between members of the programming team and festival directors

Programme review:

Films are looked it in relation to the overall proposed programme, considering consistency of themes, tone and genre variety

Final selection:

Decisions are made on the lineup and a draft schedule is drawn up to confirm running order
